Skiing

The ski resort in St. Jakob offers you everything a ski enthusiast could wish for. Ski down the perfectly groomed slopes and enjoy the lovely unspoilt nature without the hassle of overcrowded ski slopes and long lift lines. Here in the Defereggental valley we pride ourselves on a more relaxed approach to skiing and life in general. Our wonderful ski resort is a true insider tip for amazing fun on the well-maintained slopes between 1.400 to 2.525 metres above sea-level. The free ski-bus picks you up at our guesthouse Zollwirt and takes you directly to the ski lifts.
A special highlight for children is the children’s ski school area with a magic carpet and a special children’s ski area. It ensures great fun and the perfect introduction to skiing for all children.
Cross-country skiing

Explore the wonderful winter wonderland of our region on your own accord with cross-country skis or snow-shoes. These sports give you the opportunity to see our landscape at your own pace and is suitable for all fitness-levels, including families with children.
Cross-country skiing in our region is very popular due to our excellent snow conditions in the valley for an extended period of time. Therefore, you can usually cross-country ski in fantastic conditions all the way until spring.
With 70 km of well-maintained tracks in St. Jakob, St. Veit and in Hopfgarten you can perfect your technique while marvelling at the beautiful winter landscape. In addition, the track runs past our guesthouse and allows you easy access to this sport.
Snow-shoe hiking

The beautiful unspoilt landscape of the Defereggental valley is absolutely ideal for snow-shoe hiking. Explore the winter setting at your own pace and enjoy the magnificent tranquillity of our nature. With a bit of luck, you will even encounter some of the Tyrolean wildlife.
Surrounded by the stunning alpine landscape and the highest mountain in Austria, the Großglockner, you can set off into nature for a wonderful day of activity and discovery. Simply strap on your snow-shoes and get going!
Tobogganing fun
in East Tyrol
The Defereggental valley always has a lot of snowfall and is therefore ideal for all tobogganing enthusiasts and those who would like to try this fun sport. Choose your favourite track in our region: The toboggan track “Alpe Stalle” here in St. Jakob is very popular, and we can also highly recommend the tracks “Leppetal” and “Oberholz” in St. Veit in the Defereggental.
In addition, children absolutely love the children’s toboggan track “Oberweißen” in St. Jakob. With a manageable 60 metres of height elevation, the toboggan track is ideal for children to enjoy.
